Canadian RV ownership

RV Ownership Cost Calculator for Canada

Estimate annual RV cash costs, fuel, storage, camping and optional depreciation using your own Canadian-dollar figures.

Updated October 15, 2026 · Canadian buyer and owner guide · Confirm provincial requirements before you commit

Build a budget using your actual quotes in Canadian dollars. All fields start at zero: these are not Canadian market averages. This tool calculates an ongoing annual budget, not the purchase price or tax due on a transaction. Your entries stay on this page and are not saved by this tool.

Enter your own quotes and estimates, then calculate.

Use Canadian quotes, not provincial presets

Enter tax-inclusive amounts from your own insurance, storage and service quotes. A province selector cannot establish your insurance premium, winterization price or RV tax treatment. The separate purchase-cost worksheet helps you investigate acquisition taxes; this calculator deliberately does not calculate them automatically.

For Vancouver Island or Newfoundland travel, enter quoted ferry fares for the complete setup and intended crossings. For a Prairie storage season, price storage months, winterizing and spring service separately. For an Ontario or Quebec seasonal site, enter either the annual site fee or nightly charges for the same stay, not both. Add separate touring nights only when they are additional.

What the results mean

Annual cash budget combines loan payments, insurance, registration, storage, maintenance reserve, other ownership costs, seasonal costs, fuel and paid camping. It is money to plan for, including a reserve that you might not spend that year. Cash budget plus depreciation adds your estimated loss in RV value. This second figure is a planning view, not an accounting measure of economic cost: loan principal is still included.

Average cost per trip divides the annual cash budget by your trip count. It spreads fixed ownership costs across trips; it is not the additional cost of taking one more trip. Annual fuel assumes the same consumption across your entered kilometres. Use your towing consumption for a towable RV, and include other vehicle travel separately if needed.

Formulas you can check

Annual fuel = kilometres ÷ 100 × litres per 100 km × price per litre.

Annual storage = monthly charge × storage months. Annual camping = paid nights × average nightly charge. Annual loan payments = monthly payment × 12. Seasonal costs = winterizing + spring service + propane + ferries + roadside assistance + annual seasonal-site fees.

Cash budget = annual loan payments + insurance + registration + storage + maintenance reserve + other costs + seasonal costs + fuel + camping.

What to add yourself

Use the dedicated fields for ferry fares, roadside assistance, propane, winterizing, spring service and seasonal-site fees. Tolls, laundry, connectivity, extra vehicle travel and equipment replacements can go into other annual costs. Include applicable taxes in your entered quotes. Add food only to the extent you want it counted; much of your grocery budget would exist at home too.

This tool excludes the down payment, purchase taxes, initial outfitting, investment opportunity cost and proceeds from selling the RV. Keep those in a separate purchase budget. Review your estimates after the first season using receipts and actual kilometres.

Worked example

For illustration only, 5,000 km at 20 L/100 km and $1.80/L uses $1,800 of fuel. Storage at $150 for six months adds $900. Twenty paid nights at $60 adds $1,200. Those three items total $3,900 before financing, insurance, registration, maintenance and other costs. These inputs are arithmetic examples, not price or fuel-consumption recommendations.
