📘 Buying an RV in Canada
Things to check before you buy
Prices are quoted in Canadian dollars, and GST/HST and provincial sales taxes can apply. Rules differ by province and between new, used and private sales — ask the dealer to show the full taxed price.
- Check for liens on any used RV bought privately, using the personal property registry in the province where the seller lives.
- Confirm the season rating. Ask about insulation, heated holding tanks and furnace capacity if you plan to camp in cold weather.
- Match the tow vehicle. Compare the RV’s loaded weight with your tow vehicle’s rated capacity.
- Importing from the U.S.? Check Transport Canada’s Registrar of Imported Vehicles before you buy.
