Safety recalls can affect your motorhome’s chassis, your trailer’s axles and brakes, and appliances installed in the RV. Check for recalls when you buy, before every season, and whenever you hear of a problem with your model.
⚠️ Check for Recalls
Transport Canada – Vehicle Recalls Database
Search by make, model and year for safety recalls on vehicles sold in Canada. Check the chassis maker as well as the RV maker.
Government of Canada – Vehicle Recalls (open data)
The recall database as an open dataset, for people who want to download or analyze recall records.
Canadian RV Association
The national RV industry association; check its site for RV-specific recall information.
NHTSA – U.S. Recalls
For U.S.-built RVs and chassis, also check the U.S. recall database. Enter the VIN for the most accurate results.
📘 RV Safety Basics
Five habits that prevent roadside problems
- Weigh your RV. Compare your loaded weight with the GVWR and axle ratings, and keep your tow vehicle’s rated towing capacity in mind.
- Check tires before every trip. Inspect pressure, sidewalls and age — tires age out even when the tread looks fine.
- Test your detectors. Smoke, carbon monoxide and propane detectors should be working and within their service life.
- Inspect your propane system. Check for leaks, and have cylinders requalified when they are due.
- Know your fire exits and extinguisher. Make sure everyone can find them in the dark.
