Equipment, procedures and repairs

RVs vary by manufacturer, model, year, equipment and modifications. Always consult the owner’s manual and equipment documentation before operating, maintaining, repairing or modifying your RV. Stop any procedure you cannot complete safely. Use appropriately licensed or qualified professionals for electrical, propane, brake, chassis, towing, structural and other safety-critical work. Never work on energized circuits or attempt to locate gas leaks with a flame.

Emergency situations

If there is fire, suspected carbon monoxide exposure, a propane leak, serious injury or another immediate hazard, evacuate to a safe location and contact emergency services. Do not delay emergency action to follow an online guide.

Canadian laws, licensing and insurance

Federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, campground and ferry requirements may differ and change. Requirements can depend on vehicle class, registered or actual weight, axle configuration, driver qualifications and travel circumstances. Confirm the current rules with the responsible government authority, carrier, campground or insurer. This website does not provide legal or insurance advice.

Accuracy and external references

We aim to provide useful information, but cannot guarantee that every article, illustration, comparison, external link or technical example is complete, accurate, current or appropriate for every situation. Simplified diagrams explain concepts and are not approved installation schematics. External websites are maintained by third parties and may change without notice.

Reader responsibility

Assess your RV, skills, environment and applicable requirements before acting. When uncertain, obtain advice from a qualified RV service provider or the relevant authority. A disclaimer does not replace safe instructions, and nothing here limits rights or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
